Another Trophy In Tim Foster's Trophy Case |
October 19, 2009

To answer Hank Williams Jr's question, I'm ready for some football. I don't think the outcome will be favorable, but I'm ready for some football anyway. I'll be brief.
According to the Denver Post, State Representative and pursuer of personal destiny Josh Penry says that "growth in the number of employees on (state college) campuses has been excessive and that Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, is to blame."
In the same article, the Post points out that "the largest rate of growth in higher education employees was at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, where 82 additional employees were authorized over four budget years, a 19.3 percent increase."
So what are you proposing, Josh? Do you want to roll back Tim Foster's headcount? I think if you're going to whine about higher-education hiring, you need to look first at your own home. Well, I guess "home" is relative, considering that you don't live here anymore.
Speaking of Mesa State's hiring, maybe Foster's success has to do with his "hire the well-connected Republicans" program. Foster has added yet another Republican operative to his trophy case. Foster has hired Derek A. Wagner, a former Wayne Allard staffer, to his President's office staff. Although questions to Mesa State Director of Media Relations Dana Nunn yielded no answers, even after a followup call, a call to Wagner confirmed that he is indeed the same Wagner who worked for Allard.
Wagner joins Republican operatives John Marshall, the former campaign director for "Both Ways" Bob Beauprez, and Kristi Pollard, another former Allard Staffer, on the Mesa State staff. Pollard is Josh Penry's sister. Wagner and Pollard worked for Allard at the same time.
So what's it gonna be, Josh? Fire your sister or find something else to bitch about?
Because I got no answers from Nunn today, maybe I can rely on my readers to help me answer a question I have. Both Pollard and Wagner are listed as "acting" directors. I know there are Daily Blog readers who are familiar with the Mesa State hiring process. When someone is listed as "acting," does that mean that the person was appointed and the position wasn't advertised?
If you know, please let me know.
